                               Simply Bassing 2012

                                                   May 5th - June 24th

Simply Bassing registrations have all been gathered and monies collected.
All winners have been verified that they joined the contest.
This year saw an increase of 35 more people in this Spring Contest. A total of 168 this year.Three of the shops had increased sales this year and one was not quite up to last years numbers.
The contest was 20 people shy of paying a full pay out so the winners will be getting an 89% payback this year.
For those of you that won you can pick up your prize where you weighed your winning fish after July 3rd.
I would like to thank all that participated in this Annual event and signed up with us here at Jingles.
                   Congratulations to all the winners!

                             SIMPLY BASSING 2012

It has been an interesting year for Simply Bassing.
First I would like to thank all of you that signed up for this annual contest. This year was one of the highest amount of anglers that we have ever registered for this contest at Jingles Bait and Tackle.
It was a year were bunker were not in abundance for anglers to snag and fish them live. It was a year to just go fishing. You had to work hard at getting a fish to weigh in because we did not have the abundance of striped bass here this year as in the past few years. It was anybodys' contest to win. It is the first time since 2007 that there is a fish in the 20 pound range that won money.
On this list this year you have a few new names which is great to see and there are some name that are usually there that are not.
This seems to be a year that a lot of the younger anglers are getting married, buying a house or having babies. I am sure we will be seeing their names showing up again thru the years.
It was great to weigh the first place fish for Mark (one of the new names this year. I have known Mark for a few years. Mark had been a walk on at the end of his street and this spring when he returned he had a 4 wheel drive truck. Mark also caught the first bass of the year into the store in March. When it came time for Mark to catch his winning fish there were no trucks on his beach. So guess where he caught it? Yes at the end of his street.

     Congratulations Mark.
Another one of the new name this year is Jason. I have know Jason for a few years and I know he started out a few years ago with hand-me-down/ borrowed equipment and it is great to see that he enjoys fishing so much and he has become quite the fisherman.
Looking at the winners this year there is one that has been on this list before and in last years Falls Surf Classic was my pick to win the Ric O'Brien Memorial Award presented to a person that loves to fish. For John it is not about catching big fish it is just about being there and fishing.
This year there are a couple of names that have been on there at least 5 times in the last 11 years. Tim has won this tournament with a 50 pounder before and also Dante has been a winner.
Once again thank you all and I personally love this tournament because it is easy just like its name Simply Bassing.

                  It is Simply Bassing Time

It is the time of the year for you to grab your fishing rod and reel and head to the beach. The beaches for the most part are closed to vehicles so it is time to walk to the beach and go fishing.
Simply Bassing was created for just this time of the year where everybody has equal access to the beach where there is no advantage by having a vehicle. This is a end of your street competition
Thi...s time of the year traditionally has been outstanding for large striper's here on LBI from the beach. This surf contest was designed to be just what its name is SIMPLE.
There are no daily prizes so that way you do not have to keep a fish you do not want. The only fish that this contest has included are the largest and if you can not beat the smallest fish on the board you do not need to take it to weigh it for this contest. If you are not going to eat it let it go to swim another day.
In these days of conservation we have tried to do our best to try to allow people to release these larger fish if they do not qualify in the top 8 fish in this contest. The 4 tackle shops try to keep in touch with each other to keep this list updated.
As this contest goes on and we get the top 8 I will try to update my reports to let you know in inches the size of bass you will need to make it to the top 8.
Lots of times people say I am not entering because the same people always win. I can tell you that every year I see fish that would place in this contest but they were not entered. I hear I was only here for the weekend or I don't fish that much. Anyone that is fishing has a chance to win this so enter today before you catch a winning fish. Twenty dollar is the entry fee to enter the 11th Annual Simply Bassing Surf Fishing Tournament.
Good Luck to you all!!

The Life of a Surf Fisherman.
Here I stand fishing on the beach and in front of me the birds are diving just out of reach.
I try casting and casting and every cast is just shy of where I need my lure to lie.
The bass are jumping and rolling and I keep throwing.
Maybe if I wait the fish and the bait will come in to me but I guess I will just stay here and wait and see.
Finally they are ...moving toward the beach and they are getting within my reach.
I look to my left and what do I see a boat and he is heading toward the fish and me.
I have waited all this time to have these fish in my reach and this boat comes and the fish head away from the beach.
Tomorrow is another day and maybe the fish will be there for me to play.
